Thoughts on the strategy of this pattern catalogue? And in a 2nd step the question what the scope should be? Talking of this according the book by Jesse James with the title «The Elements of User Experience». There are already that many pattern catalogues.

Main differentiator

  1. A meta pattern catalogue: It's aggregating the knowledge other pattern catalogues have already collected.
  2. The way the patterns are organized: We thought of a way to organize the patterns according to higher level principles as what the user needs to do when being confronted with a website. The user has to look for information, has to add Email-Addresses in the field when writing an Email or he's setting an upper price limit for the flight ticket he's willing to pay. These Actions we call User Actions. And for each of these User Actions that pose a problem there are patterns to solve it. On the other side there is the interaction between the system and the user. These Actions are called System Actions. The system gives the user a feedback on a step the user performed. We looked at the patterns as a way of how the Machine interacts with the User and vice versa.
  3. There is the power of a community behind it: The entire catalogue is set up in a wiki which allows collect the knowledge of many different individuals. The wiki builds up on the idea that many people together are smarter than single person.
